I have hardwood to carpet. I just had them run a flat threshold piece at the doors and the carpet runs flush to the wood.

The shiny gold strip is a lowest common denominator transition. Very Joe Homeowner. Not absolutely wrong, any more than say beige linoleum tiles in the kitchen and a Harvest Gold range. But most installers who take pride in their work would have managed a sleeker transition as Dawn or Margo have described.

Should have replaced the carpet with the same wood.

Wood transition pieces are usually available. There is no excuse for this. They didn't care.

Go to the a home improvement store. They have a large selection of room transitions

ranging from marble to wood...they are fairly inexpensive. and easy to install.

and they will look better then this. Really have no words for this transition...Other then take the maybe 15 minutes to replace it. Good luck...and do post the before and after pictures.

Several posters above are correct. The suggestion should have been made that the carpet be cut at entrances generously enough for a re-tuck right at the edge of the hardwood. No transition necessary. If the carpet folks can't achieve that transition at this point.....perhaps a wood worker can stain you a matching wood transition that would be less noticeable
