I have a 1700SF ranch with three bedrooms, an office and kitchen into open space living area. We also have a separate barn with efficiency apartment for guests.
I dream of a master suite with big closet. Is this worth losing a bedroom to create it? What is more valuable, small homes with en suite and only one guest room or 3 bedrooms with one shared bath?

I think you should do what you like and stop worrying about the imaginary purchaser in the future unless you are selling very soon go for it there will always be a buyer that would rather have an awesome master .

Depending on your location and comps, the adding the 2nd bath may defiantly balance out losing the 3rd bedroom.
