I'm not a fan of that style of table for your space and here's why:
When you are looking into your kitchen from the family room it's going to block the whole view because it is high. The rectangular shape is going take up all the available "breathing" space especially with the desk on one side and leaving room to get out of slider. The reason it looks good in the pic is that the designer wanted the table up higher so they could see out the window because of the wall. I think that type of table works well with high ceiling and taller cabinets. How about a round table with a butterfly leaf. At the very least, mark it out on the floor with painters tape and see how it feels.

Before the table, have to ask where that door opposite the cabinets goes to. Is it a pantry door? It needs to be changed from that old orange oak shade.

Thanks, those are great ideas. Regarding the door, it is a pantry. Do you have suggestions on the color if we didn't totally replace it? My house was built in early 1990s so it is full of that oak trim and doors. Is it ok to have different colored trim/doors in one room from the other rooms? Thank you again!

I agree with the round table! For starters I would paint that door the color of the wall. If is still " sticks out" I would paint the door, window, and trim white.

Been scrolling thru photos of pantry doors. Many match cabinets, some don't at all. I think you would have a big improvement if you changed out the door knob to match the hinges. Are the hinges oil rubbed bronze?

You could add a chalk board to the door front for more interest also.

Are you open to painting the door to match the cabinets? If not, after changing the door knob (light needs changing also) then you could add something to door front such as this: (attach with strips of velcro).

I think choosing something visually weighty would be your biggest mistake. Not that I'm a fan of glass tables and stuff like that, but the openness of that space is really nice and you might want to keep that in mind.

Hi Mary. I like the new table you picked. Will the fabric clean easy on the chairs though? You could go with solid wood chairs or tall stools. Try before you buy. You did a great job on your cabinets and flooring. I changed my kitchen table to a round one and I hate it. It takes up more room than the rectangle I had. (leave the door if it matches the others)

Thank you, that is a great suggestion on painting the table. I do plan on replacing the handle on the door, but I move a snail's pace! Thank you for the suggestions on painting the door as well, I'll start with the handle, then see if we need to go further.

Would it be ok to paint the trim white in the kitchen, if the trim in the rest of the house is oak?

Hi Mary, I wouldn't start painting trim and doors unless you want to end up doing the whole house. I liked the blackboard suggestion best. You can mask off a big rectangle on the pantry door (avoiding the knob etc.) and paint the "black" board any color you like. If you must, add a minimal wood trim to frame it. BTW great job on the kitchen!
