I heard lots of rain sounds this morning and was quite disappointed, b/c I had planned on starting to get my winter sowing containers ready today. I saw my package made it to the main PO around 5:30, but not to the final one yet. It still said delivery was tomorrow. :( Today is a very rare mostly-free day, so I kept praying and refreshing the page and....it now says they will be here today! :):):):)

lol I just had to tell someone that would understand. Lol

Well, in case you cannot tell from my long silence....I got my seeds! :):):) The mailman waited in his truck FORTY minutes. I about lost my mind! lol I texted my friend (whose husband is a local mailman), and she said I could have the police called on me if I approached the truck. I kept watching...stuck my head out the door a few times...ugh. He does this normally (friend says he likely takes his lunch break early in a.m.), but i normally do not care. I did today. lol

It all worked out, though! I already sorted into stuff I am keeping and stuff I am passing on. I made a list and added the stuff I am keeping to my main list. Thank you, all, for some very fun seeds! Erica, thank you for all your hard work. I cannot wait to sow these...many will be wintersown. :)

I already messaged a few people for some additional info. MWFW, I do have a few questions....could you message me if you get a chance? I was wondering if you had more info on the lavendar and on the peony? If not, that is ok...I am sowing them, anyway, as I am especially excited about those two. :):):) (I do not see an option to message you.) I realize many are sending stuff that is from trades, but I wanted to get whatever extra info I can so I put things in the right spot. :)

Dawn -- That's hilarious that he was in his truck for 40 mins. You were persistent in keeping an eye on him. Very cute. :)

Here is a picture of one of my seedling grown peonies that I purchased on ebay a few years ago. I got white, pink, and red singles (anemone flowered) and doubles. They grew very fast and vigorously, blooming the following year. They produce lots of seeds. I haven't had a chance to try and germinate any yet but am looking forward to it. I will see if I can find a photo of the Dwarf Lavender that I bought at Lowe's a couple of years ago. It does great along our sidewalk in full sun.

Chrissy....mine had no tracking until night before it got here. I am guessing they are scanning less so things go faster this time of year. I am impressed it made it here so fast! I hope yours gets there soon. :)

I think the lavender is around 10"-12" tall, and the peonies are the same as most other herbaceous peonies. Over time they form a large clump and produce many blooms on each plant. The one pictured is what I call fuchsia, while some are pastel pink. The red one is a double. I also have peonies from my Great Grandmother's divisions. They can thrive for decades with little care other than cutting back the stems in early fall to help prevent botrytis.

Midwestfarmwife, I would love to hear of any success with growing peony seeds!! I have tried winter sowing them the past two years with no success yet! (Both herbaceous and tree) This year's containers that didn't sprout tho I saved and will give them another year or two outside with wintersowing.

Erica, thank you for hosting a great swap. I was so happy with the side trades I did before I received my package, it was nice to look forward to receiving all those trades. I have a pretty specific wish list, and i wasnt expecting too much, but I was so excited to see not only a few from my wish list, but some otherwise NEAT seeds that I'm thrilled to get and look forward to trying/adding to my garden.

Your item departed our USPS destination facility in ALBANY, NY 12288 on December 18, 2015 at 10:42 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination. It still says delivery date, 12/18.

Chrissy -- I just checked your tracking. I have a feeling that your pack is at your local PO. I think the message you get when it's in transit to your house is "Out for delivery," or something like that. It shows the 18th as your "expected" delivery date, not that it was delivered on the 18th. You're probably safe not to start freaking out yet. I just sent a priority box out a couple weeks ago, which is supposed to be 2 day delivery, but it took a full week. If you don't receive your pack on Mon, you can call your local PO and ask about it (make sure you have the tracking number handy when you call).

I'm so sorry that your PO is slow. It must be torture seeing everyone else receiving their packs.

I got my seed and it was a dream, thanks everyone and extra thanks to Erica for hanging in there and making my seed Christmas so special. I'm elated.

Finally I said it must be lost somewhere. But it seems to have been found. Looks like I'll probably get it either tomorrow or Tuesday. Damn slow mail.

I received some Montauk Daisy seeds that I am very excited about. I cannot find any info on how deep to sow them. Does anyone know? :)

Dawn, from what I'm reading it is similar to the Shasta Daisy. I'd probably try finding directions on those and go with that. I came across a few posts where people were successful winter sowing them, but no one gave other details.

Also, check this post. You might find some useful info there, as well as at least one GWer who successfully grew them from seed.

I was wondering if I should just use the same instructions for Shasta Daisy. Thanks for confirming it would be a good idea. :) Thanks for the link, too!
