Although I think the slab you husband likes is beautiful, it IS introducing another color to the kitchen that doesn't repeat anywhere else. I think the quartzite slab you selected is fabulous. I would go with that and a dark gray/black perimeter countertop material. A honed or leather finish black granite would be nice - it kind of resembles soapstone but without the maintenance - or the same in a man made material. I always like to the play the materials off of each other: light counter on dark island, dark counter on light perimeter cabinets. Staying with the white/gray/black color scheme allows you to add any color that you like in your accessories. Your kitchen is really beautiful and that hood is outstanding!
