Yes u can mix furniture. of the 3 colors, the middle one looks best.

I suggest buying your new bedding first and then pull your paint color from that, since the sky's the limit with paint color.
There are already three rectangular wood pieces in the room, and a dresser would be four. Can you find an alternative storage solution to adding another hard lined furniture piece- like maybe a closet drawer system? Not seeing the other walls of the room it's hard to judge; but it appears that maybe something with soft edges would help balance the room. Like an overstuffed reading chair and ottoman instead of a dresser?

Try the armoire in another room as a storage piece. Paint is the last step in a makeover since it can be custom blended to work with the unchangeable fabrics and textiles. To test paint, paint sample colors in the center of a large white poster board. The white border all around will keep your wall color at bay while trying to determine exactly how the sample colors change in different light and at different times. Also don't try to judge them all side by side, but one at a time, moving them to different parts of the room at different times of day to see how they look from all angles, times and lighting conditions.

Love all of these ideas except I've already purchased the paint and selected the darker blue. Was thinking solid bedding??The wall the armoire is on is about 16' and all that is on it is the armoire. What would I use to fill up the wall space? I only have about 2.5' between bed and armoire.

I really like the first photo that brings together blue walls, white comforter, throws for accent and natural bamboo! I think if you tweaked blues, you could achieve this look.

I like your night stands and armoire very much! Would love to see a an upholstered headboard though to add softness and height and break up all the wood !

I'd like to break up wood also but my husband would kill me if I told him I was getting rid of bed. We've only had this set about 7 years so I'll have to work around what I have. Could move armoire into dining room where I do need added storage. Love the white bedding with blue walls! Paint color I chose blends with other rooms in my house and picture below is wallpaper that is in master bath right off bedroom.

Gorgeous! My one concern is yes you can mix the colors of wood, but to avoid the furniture floorroom look, bring in something else that matches the dresser, lamps, area rug, bench at foot of bed, frames in prints. etc......otherwise the dresser will look lonely. And find an unusual mirror is you have a choice of matching mirror or not. Looking good so far!

Just love your wallpaper! Wish more people used it as it adds such a wonderful dimension! I can see now why you went with the blue walls . I like to keep bedding simple , white or cream. ThAt way you can add some print pillows or change things from time to time. If you buy good quality linens in a plain pattern they will last you a very long time. Not sure how you feel about duvets, but I like them because they can be removed and laundered, give that luxurious feel and alow you to use a pattern in the bed skirt. Looking at your furniture and wallpaper I think you might aim for a British Colonial style here.

My only concern is that the blue you chose seems a bit dark. It may just be the picture and you didn't post many of the room. Always hard to tell colors on line so am only guessing but your furniture is dark and there doesn't seem to be much contrast.

Well I started my question wondering about furniture now after all the responses I'm second guessing my paint color! I definitely don't want too dark in my bedroom. Worried I have too much color throughout downstairs now. Kitchen is a caramel, dining room same color I selected for bedroom and family room a lighter version of the dining and bedroom. Could I go with on off white on walls, with blue bedding and window treatments??

I love the blue. Bedrooms are best when they are mysterious; sexy color and bed choice I think! Looks inviting and seems like you have a nice balance of a very few colors in your home!

I love a blue bedroom as well! Especially with white linens; I didn't mean for you to change it completely! Just go a shade lighter:) like the background in your wallpaper. For all I know it may be that shade and the pic you posted was bad. You need to show us more of the room. Try the paint out and see and if it is to dark go one shade up on the card.

I don't think it's too dark, especially with white/off-white bedding.

Even though the blue paint appears dark in the pic, everything else in the room will affect how it actually reads in the space- the natural lighting, etc. Like others have said, going with a light-white bedding set will provide a nice balance. I'd recommend going light with any accessories you add to the space as well.

Were you still planning on buying the cream dresser you originally posted? If so then painting the night stands to match would look very nice .

I'm thinking about it! We both have a walkin closet but they are not very big. Could use some more storage and have a wall in front of bed that is about 17 ft. 0nly 5 ft between the bed and wall. The armoire is now right in front of the bed and it is 24" deep. Was looking for something longer and narrower to take up space on the wall

You can mix those pieces, however they are both heavy styles. I suggest unifying the color pallet. That includes not only the furniture, but the soft scapes also (bedding, window coverings..) if the furniture is heavy- lighten things up.... How large is the room (?), if the room is huge this may not be your issue.

I agree kjdesigns; plus the dresser may add needed storage space without adding the visual bulk of the armoire.

The room is 16x20. Off white bedding and draperies with print pillows?? I'll take better pictures and attach. Been Christmas shopping so room is loaded with packages!

So I finally painted my bedroom this weekend and went with the darker blue and absolutely love it! Order white shams and bedding from pottery barn. Now- I assume I'll place the bed back between the windows and night stands in either side. Big armoire?? Where should that go- holds TV but nothing else. Would still like to purchase a dresser and paint night stands to match. Any suggestions for other placement and what else do I need. Thinking white panels? Chairs??? Trees??

Anderson, this looks lovely! What a large beautiful room. Not such a dark blue after all. I wouldn't paint the side tables having finally seen the entire room. Wait to get your bedding, it will look stunning against the blue. If you have room for the armoire why not use it? This is a large room and having furniture of different heights gives it more interest.

Here's an option if you want to rearrange your furniture but I think it's good as is too...

Thank you! Wish I had enough space for seating. The room is actually only 13.6 X 20. It is very narrow. Only have about 3 ft between the bed and armoire. It's the sides of armoire I need to fill up

Hmm, that's a pretty good size room. My guest room is 12.6x17.6 and I have a large armoire and a chair & ottoman in there with plenty of room. You have a good ft. Extra in depth; I don't have a dresser but do have a large storage ottoman across from the bed.

Anderson, are the floor plans that er612 posted correct? Because I just went back on this thread and it appears the windows are larger than what appear on the floor plans. I was hoping you could angle your armoire in the corner but that doesn't seem possible if what I think I am looking at actually is:(

I tried the armoire at an angle by the doors but it covers half of one window. Didn't like the look of that. What about a long mirror on left of armoire with a bench in front and then chair and ottoman on other side in the corner??

Yea, I was afraid of that after I did go back and look! You don't have a lot of wall space although this is a nice size room. I think the mirror and bench sounds nice. You should have room for a chair and ottoman with a 20' length room.i did notice after that the ft. Of your bed was straight; that helps!

I really like #3 er612! There's plenty of room on the other side of the room for a dresser or desk and chair if need be. If the armoire goes between the two windows there isn't that sense of to much negative space.

Thank y'all! I really like #3 also except that the door to the room is in the side of the big wall with no windows. Don't I want to walk in to the room and see the bed facing not the side of it. But I could put 2 chairs on each side of the armoire. Just not sure about walking in to room and seeing side of bed
