Any recommendations on area rug color? Should I stay natural? I have kids and want something comfortable to sit on. I'm realizing now the jute rugs may be to rough and bumpy.

If you have children, you may wish to go with a darker rug with maybe a little grey to pick up the color in the striped chair.

I know you haven't asked about the lighting, however, I feel that I must comment. A lamp or wall sconce in each corner is much more flattering to most people than ceiling lights.

I agree with Beverly ... Switch the two chairs. Looks like you may need an 8' X 10' rug. I would go with a gray hue rug. I would try one of the pillows on sofa in beige chair. Drape wrap on top of sofa over corner of beige chair. Does the stripe chair have an extra pillow? If so , pull it off and put on sofa - with smaller gray pillow in front. Most all local stores, Target, Walmart, Pier One, World Market, Marshall's, are now carrying storage stools, benches or ottomans.

Yes the rug should be large enough to fill the space and have the front legs on the rug. You might consider an accent color for pillows, since the room is quite neutral. Also the drapes are too short they should always touch the floor. I would consider longer panels hung higher in a charcoal grey that would look great, hung close to the ceiling.
