I did not get smudge proof...it looked dirty to me. I did buy all Jenn-Air and had no problems. Don't use a commercial cleaner ...it is too greasy. Just use a rag with soap and water...rinse and wipe dry. Wipe in the same direction.

my view is anyone who can be trained not to stick their fingers in the gas flame can learn to put their hands on the handle to open and close the fridge doors. maybe a brightly colored sticker on the handle to train them to grab the dot. tell them the fbi will be stopping by to finger print everyone in the house so you'll find the culprit in the end.

you are correct, the smudgeproof looks dirty. worse than that, its a plastic film that starts to shred around the corners of the ice maker.

My 25 year old son bought GE Slate finish appliances for his house. He is not super clean and loves to cook, so they were perfect him. I personally think they are a great alternative to stainless; having stainless myself I know how much work they really are to keep clean.

forgot to mention I have two grandchilden, ages 3 & 5....they live a mile from me and I LOVE having them at our house as often as possible!

I have a Samsung refrigerator. I believe the finish is called brushed platinum. I like the way this finish looks . I just wipe it off with my dish cloth or a microfiber cloth. I can't say there are no smudges but they are not very obvious and clean up easily.

I have a Fisher&Paykel fridge and LG range and dishwasher. The reason my fridge is a different brand is because Fisher&Paykel was the only company that made a counter-depth fridge small enough to fit in a 32" space. I also liked the fact that the sides are a stainless-coloured metal and not plastic or whatever the material is that is usually found on the sides of fridges.

The fridge's finish is a dream to keep clean. You just wipe it with a damp sponge or rag and then dry it with a soft cloth. If it's really dirty, you can use some liquid dish soap on the sponge though I've never had to. I, too, have a three year old grandson so I understand your concerns. LOL

The LG appliances are a bit of a pain when it comes to fingerprints, especially the dishwasher. I agree not to use a stainless steel cleaner, it almost seems to make things worse! I did find a good cleaning tip on the Net that sounds weird but does work. It recommended cleaning the appliance with vinegar, drying it off and then polishing with a little bit of oil. You just put a couple of drops of vegetable oil on a cloth and rub it in following the grain. It doesn't leave the finish sticky, just gives it a nice shine.

Know that some of the smudgeproof finishes are a film that is applied over the metal. Like a clear coat over the stainless. I know Frigidaire is like this. We installed one at a home and the blue packing tape removed the finish under it when it was removed. The appliance dealer was good enough to give us a new door - as the unit was brand new and we had purchased locally (they said Frigidaire would not have warranted that!). Two yeas later the client said it held up just fine after that initial unpacking incident.
