All the space is required to open the door.............your only choice is to use the stairs.

Yes I've looked for some ideas. I can probably use a few hooks. No more than two or three. And a unique basket or other container that hugs the steps just right might be helpful. I have not seen anything like that yet

I have one of those step baskets. It would be perfect for one or two pairs of shoes.

Ballard Designs has a basket that fits on the stairs. And I'm sure there are others out there.

can you knock out some of the sheetrock on the left wall ( when entering house) and build in some nooks?

In an old story and a half Minnesota bungalow (adorable) that my parents once owned, the back door opened to a similar sized space, then went up a few steps to the main house, or down a flight to the basement.

Dad installed a railing, lined with hooks, with a hat shelf high above, following the stairs to the basement. The rail with hooks followed the angle of the stairs; the hat shelf was above the landing, and at a right angle, so only part was actually useable.

We hung our coats and winter garb on the hooks, and though the stairs weren't really wide, it didn't interfere with traveling the stairs. Worked great.

This is the entry to a 1-story flat condo on the second floor. You enter and go up the steps to the rest of the home.

Cool idea! BUT it depends what/who is on the other side of the steps ! otherwise, don't bother crowding the steps - keep them clean and clutter free - safety first

Perhaps do some funky lighting on the entrance and stairs: huge diff! look for different type of handrails and perhaps with strip lighting; & a softer colour here to flow into the main colour scheme

this doesn't help with storage, but maybe add a shelf and some pictures to that wall thats midway up the stairs (parallel to the closed door).

I probably would do something in the up the stairs area. Call me unimaginative but that is just too narrow and small a stairway for any shoes or clothes.

Yes it's a small condo. I don't want to clutter the area. but I probably at least need one of those baskets to take off wet shoes after coming in from the snow. the entire place has light carpet. And I can see that staircase getting NASTY as winter progresses.

You can get rolls of self sticking plastic runners at home depot to keep your carpet clean; used in model homes to protect carpet; think in comes three feet wide with adhesive on sides.

You can always place your wet boots/shoes in cute, reusable plastic shopping bags, and hang them from hooks, alongside your coats. At least that gets them off the floor
