Do you like red accent walls? If so, I would probably keep it, but would want to paint the other walls a complimentary but paler colour - I think it's too much white with that tall ceiling as well as the walls.

Do you have a picture that you like? Or a a fabric that epitomizes serenity for you? Look at the colors and take them for your color palette. Then pick the color you wish to emphasize - use a pale tone on the walls. Bring the deeper tones in accessories - use the picture or the fabric in the room with sufficient emphasis - to tie together.

I've attached a pic for a look I liked . I feel like this is too pale for an accent wall? Would I leave the ceilings white and paint all the walls this shade ? I find the red w bit overwhelming especially w the contrast w all the white . The room is quite large. Appreciate the feedback. This is our first house and I am learning (slowly). Thx a ton!

I would not do an accent wall in this room. I would paint all the walls one color. Walls need to contrast from the white ceiling color. Stay away from dark colors. Anything light would work.

That color (blue) definitely isn't too pale for an accent wall. It's actaully a great color for a serene and calm feeling. One thing to consider: do you want to play up the angles in your bedroom? If so, paint the walls and ceilings different colors or different shades of colors. Like the picture you posted for example. Painting the walls and ceiling separate colors makes the angle more obvious. If you like to blend in the angles more, paint the room one entire color.. the soft blue, or a cream color.

The great thing with paint is it's inexpensive and easy to change! Since you said you prefer a calm/serene feel, try staying w/ the cream color paints, greys, very light blues or greens. (The cooler colors on the color wheel.) Adding accessories, window treatments, a rug under the bed.. that's where it begins to feel "put together"! :) Just like putting together an outfit!

I would get rid of the accent wall especially since it's a dark color, and paint the entire room a light pastel color. That way you can use darker colors for drapes, bedding, or a rug.

In our last place we had yellow in the living room and it really injected a nice warm energy into the room. You would probably like it! I would have to agree with the recent suggestions that a nice pastel/neutral palette will be soothing... You will just need a good quality paint/primer to cover up that red. :)

If you like the yellow I would do white molding and a BLUE ceiling!
