Need paint help!!

Can't decide what color to paint the back wall surrounding the bar in our basement. The bar and near door were stained by the previous owner. As you can see the wood tones are strong! We are in love with the new gray beige color surrounding closets on the right but can't decide on a complimentary color for the bar. Initially I picked this root beer color thinking it would be chocolaty but as you can see, it looks more purple/eggplant. What do you think?? Help!

What do you think about white washing the door and bar area to tone it down and then having a distressed look? The floor would not be competing with the bar and door and it would help things to blend better.

White washing is hard and you have a tendency to over do it and get a solid look. Try semi transparent fencing stain in driftwood gray or white. Roll it on with a small foam roller and brush it dry with a big brush. Have a cloth available to leave your brush dry.
It takes a while to totally dry hard but it is dry in a few hours.

Using the same color in both areas would unite the room. What you are doing is awkward. You have a color you like, stay with that. The door is pretty and I like the stain. The trim is not the same wood and came out orange. I couldn't live with that.

Paint the bar area the same grey you have on the other walls.

Paint that wall Pantone Tardis Blue. Buy tinted semigloss varnish in walnut and go over all the wood trim one coat at a time until it is the same colour as the door. I'm guessing one coat will do it.

What about a gel stain on the bar and trim so we don't have to sand it? Do you think that would work. Plan was to paint behind the bar area and the adjacent TV wall (not pictured) a different color for contracts but I guess we can do the entire basement one color too.
