I'd go with something fun to look at. You're not spending much time in that area, so it won't get old quickly. Fixture should make you happy. If it has crystals or cut outs, it'll give some fun shadows on your walls. Your kids will like that ;-) Not sure what your budget is, check out some websites such as lampsplus, or gallery803 where I found this one.

What may work very nicely here and also give a bit more of a modern feel is a varied height cluster chandelier.

Here's some of the one's we have thought about as well. We are terrible at making these decisions!!

I think a minimalist lantern would be nice.

Quick questions - what is the size (LXW) of the landing area and do you want to keep the same ORB finish?

Cabaker, I think the idea of using multiple pendants like the ones in this photo could be perfect. It breaks up the view and adds some whimsy without being overly distracting.

The landing area is LxW is about 6' by 6'. Everything in the house is a bronze tone, so we would like to stick with it. We are trying to pull the house out of the 90's little by little. Thanks!

The dimensions call for a 12" diameter but I think you can go bigger because of the wide open space. Any chance of getting an approximate diameter on the existing fixture? Also think about what will be seen from outside the house.

Something like this might be kind of cool - like a chandelier within a chandelier :)

I mocked in a varied height ceiling cluster light. This happens to be a 5 light..I think a 3 light would be better. What I like about the clear round glass globe for your space is it enhances the window and gives a graceful presence - while staying modern.

On a different note...how about noy having a chandelier at all? If you installed a recessed light which illuminated the staircase and shed light on the staircase wall; then you added a piece of art which complimented your window on the wall?

lol beverly, none of the pictures you showed were what i meant. i mean a lantern style in front of grids can look off some times, be wary means be aware. choose a different scale.

(but if you want to put a square lantern in front of square grille, be my guest).

Thank you all for the great ideas! Admittedly, we were thinking about the atom looking circle chandelier (and were hoping the Houzz community would choose that one), but with the variety of options you all have presented, I have more to think about and they are ALL great options!

Check Restoration Hardware and look at Focaults Orb. It would go beautifully.

This would look amazing but with Edison style bulbs instead of candelabra bulbs.

It might be that sharing this chandelier from one of our designs will help.

I really like the globe light you thought of originally and think it would look great in your space. Here's mine. Love the look in an entrance.
