Laminate is inappropriate for kitchens. It doesn't like the splashes from the kitchen sink, the steam from the dishwasher nor any other type of moisture. Many people have had to replace their kitchen laminate between 3-7 years.

If you insist on using laminate throughout, please purchase enough to install the kitchen TWICE...Yep. That means you want to purchase and store another 100 - 300sf of this floor so that when (not if...when) the kitchen laminate needs replacing, you can replace it with the identical floor. You will not be able to find this product in 2 years let alone 5 years.

If you want your floor to last 15-20 years, please purchase the kitchen twice. That way you have enough on hand to do a significant repair on the kitchen without replacing all the flooring (which is what an open floor plan makes you do).
