Color and lighting would make a big impact. It would be nice to have table lamps on the night stands - always good to have multiple lighting options. If you don't want to change the color of the walls, a more colorful rug and a piece of artwork or a large photo (or grouping of photos) over the bed would be a nice touch. I'd probably place the rug out in the middle of the room rather than under the bed also.

Paint the tray ceilings. Bring more color into the space. Search for "tray ceilings" on Houzz for ideas. It can be as neutral or as bold as you are comfortable with, but it's one way to make an impact. There are countless others too. This community will let you know!

Something I did in my old place was to create a faux window behind the bed with drapery. It was the focal point of the room.

The matchy-matchy furniture is kind of boring and dated. Are you willing to get some new furniture, or paint some of the old?

I would suggest you start by saving bedrooms into an ideabook on Houzz. That will give you a clearer vision of where you want to go.
