Smallest size table to sit 8?

I would like suggestions on table size to fit 8. My dining room seems to fit 6

easily but I would like to sit 8. Would a round table with a leave work better

or what would the smallest rectangle table to do the job. Chairs would also have to be on a smaller scale.

    You can seat eight people at a 36" x 36" table, but you will want larger if you want to eat at the table. A lot depends upon your table setting practices and size of those partaking in the meal. 72" x 44" will work, unless you are serving the equivilant of the front defensive line of your local professional football team.
