Ive actually seen so many new luxury homes using the wood instead of metal. I would keep the current ones and have the stairs redone in a new colour!

Also to keep in mind, I currently have the second metal ones you posted and they gather considerable amounts of dust in the round decorative part that becomes painfully hard to clean all the time. So definitely keep the cleaning in mind as you chose!
