I would keep things light and bright and sparse. Look at the entry space as a positive by creating a beautiful vignette of some kind.... a welcoming into the space.

a sofa table with matching lamps...more light .family photo... and a funky chair on each side .maybe...a MCM bench with a large piece of art....( depending on your personal taste)

Overall, use it like an ''intentional" beautiful entry that introduces the basement

It depends - how would you like to use the kitchen space? Bar and darts room or meditation or workout space?

Do you have any furniture you mean to relocate to the basement? That might help to know, too.

In the "hall" part I'd probably do a console table with lamps and seats tucked underneath for extra seating in the main part of the basement, depending on what you intend to do down there. Or some other sort of useful nook like this:

wow. I love that pic idea. I don't know what to do with the "kitchen" space. We don't have a very big budget. I think either a bar space or maybe an area for children might be nice.
