I would use panels on the large windows, and Roman shades on the smaller windows.

I could see light grommet top panels over the small windows & the same single panel hung on each of the larger windows, just at the sides of each. Hang the rods up to the ceilings & down to the floor all the same length.

Sandraclark, so for the Windows by dining table are you also saying to hang panels just at each end even though windows are separate? If that makes sense. And do one rod all the way across? Thanks

No actually I was thinking five narrow panels for the dining

room & four for the living room. The small windows should be covered with the same panels either one or two, but closed.

The small window panels could be lined if the fabric is not heavy enough so the light does not come through them showing that the windows are smaller than the others.

It's good that you showed all the windows throughout. To me keeping your new shades is best and going with a heavy texture neutral valance placed almost at ceiling and just kissing the tops of the windows - this will maximize light, your shade will provide privacy, and the continuity of type of window treatment using a valance will make the rooms feel joined, larger and harmonious.

Yes I like that idea. Except I was thinking possibly four for the window with dining table. One on each end and then I guess I'm thinking between each window. Does that make sense? I think you're saying to also put one in center of the middle larger window. Is that correct? That is such a long space I'm not sure one curtain rod would go across but I'll check. I would add drapery panels to your windows in a contrasting color and change out your too small lamps to something larger.

Beverly, would you also do the same with the larger Windows? If so, how would you suggest doing the Windows by dining table where there are three separate? Or should I just leave the larger Windows as is? We don't want to cover much window up. Just have the panels for warmth and decor. I do see what you're saying about lamps. Thanks for the photo. I'll need to stick with what I have for now as I purchased them a couple months ago. I thought they'd look larger when they came and didn't realize it at first. I appreciate your help. How to determine lamp shade sizeRebecca, these drapery panels are just to add some depth and texture to the room. I would simply install panels at either end of the triple window.

You might eventually consider changing the size of your lamps by purchasing a taller properly proportioned shade for the lamp and replacing the lamp harp with a larger harp.

Do I use three curtain rods? One for each window. Or how many drapes? It's very long to use one rod across. Would need to be around 165". Thank you! Very helpful.

You'l need 6 panels and a few sets of rods. It would be easier to use one rod, but it's likely that will be hard for you to find. I can't tell you exactly how to do this, but you know that all these rods are telescoping, and you might be able to slide one inside another and get completely across the opening, or mount three rods, that have no large finials at the ends.

Nice room! I would agree to add curtain panels on all the windows to give some vertical lines to the room, as there are many horizontal already. I would shy away from shades. Mount rods about 3" below ceiling to give the illusion of height to the room.

Thanks Julie! I'll have panels hemmed so I can hang at proper height. Most are either to short or long. Our ceilings are about 8'.
