Designing a kitchen open shelving/wall mount dish drainer combo

Hi all!

I have a small narrow galley kitchen that can't be opened up to the adjacent room, and we're planning on eliminated uppers to help it feel a little less enclosed, with some open shelving on one wall, but with a lot of the storage space moved to a new full height pantry area. I'd like the open shelving to be a box like this:

But without the back panel, just a long four sided box with the wall behind, and running across a small window which is above the sink, a lot like this:

The window only looks out on a fence two feet away, so there's no loss of view.

Okay, now imagine a cut-out in the wood right over the sink, made to fit a dish rack. Basically the equivalent of this:

But open, and looking through the dishes to the window. And with the wood running continuously across the whole wall, in front of the steel racks. Any thoughts? Thanks!
