In any part of the country tract home builders are what they are. A decent livable house at a price commensurate with what the area allows, and with bottom end or basic finishes. If you want to upgrade they generally will charge you for the basic, plus full retail on the upgrades. You end up with a house that will pass code but just barely.

Grand Homes is a good one. I love Paul Taylor houses too. I've heard wonderful things about Shanti Custom Homes, they are smaller scale and somewhat selective on which neighborhood they build in. I don't have any experience with the others you listed.

Stay away from M. Christopher Homes.

I don't agree with millworkman though, well I slightly agree you could say.. Allen and Plano, even every suburban town surrounding is highly sought after and you don't build a new home even in a community unless you have a healthy budget. I believe that's true for many places and many builders, but not so much in this area.

Pulte used to be a basic tract home builder, nothing special, but they seem to be moving up in design and quality to keep up here.

No harm in knocking on ththe door of would be neighbors and ask how their experience was. They'd give the most unbiased opinions
