temps here in New Orleans hit 34F last night, and my Jabos didnt really seem to notice, except very minor burning on a few leaf tips, but just new growth.

i was waiting till spring to put mine in the ground... this has been a mild winter, so, i am hoping in 3 or 4 weeks the possibility of frost will be quite low, and i will transplant it then.

what do you use for fertilizer ? Mulch ?

is the ground normally moist ? i would think water would be your biggest problem.

Its the very same!. This is in a public park. Plenty of water GM, just that its the dead of winter when the photo was taken. They mulch,and a compost pile is in the middle of the entire garden. No protection at all from winds. They do sound slow to fruit. This is the second one I have heard to fruit..and the other was another oldie down south in Los Angeles.

Jabo are infectious for sure. I started out with a Sabara, then another sabara, then a blue, red, a grimal and two yellows. So far only my original Sabara and a yellow have flowered and fruited the rest are too small.

I tasted a couple off that bush last year. I don't know if I picked them too early, but the fruit was way too astringent... we will have to see what it produces this year.

I have a 2 year old in my yard nearby and it has been growing well. About 3 feet high/wide. I pruned it as an ornamental, it has a very beautiful form, like a Japanese maple.

You're right. Very Bonsai like in that it looks like a large forest tree right now. Nice plant.

Although,a north facing fence might not give the warmth you need for fruiting. If you don't get flowering soon..you could always move it. Or plant a second plant in a hot spot to hedge your bets.
