Heather Chicover, thank you for asking - and I am glad you like the room! The ceiling over the kitchen area is at about 8'-4" or so. The bottom of the coffer beams are about an inch higher. The coffers are deep - about 12". From the floor to the upper coffered ceiling is therefore about 9'-5". One of the coffer beams has a very large glulam girder inside it that holds up the house above. The others are hollow, and boxed out to create a pattern on the ceiling incorporating the glulam. One might have plumbing in it, too, but it's been a while....Then they were all trimmed with crown molding inside. Best of luck with your project !
