Dumb Washing Question

I just got a new Made in USA mattress pad. King, 100% cotton with fiber fill. It came in a plastic zip bag.

Wash before using or not?

Would not inquire about sheets or towels but this seems different.

Probably has fabric finish on the top. I would wash it before using.

Wash it Roc..no telling what chemicals are on it.

If purchased new, in an unopened bag, I would just put on bed

Wash everything before using. Made in US or not it's been treated to survive whatever conditions until sale.

100% wash before. USA, China, Europe, Oceania....I wash everything before using!

Another vote for washing first! I like it to smell like "mine" before sleeping on it. Plus, you'll be able to find out how it survives laundering while you still have receipt and packaging handy :)

Wash it! Imported goods are treated with pesticides so that bugs on the freighters don't infest the merchandise. It's a long haul across the Pacific.

I go with the same, wash it. Better to be safe that sorry!!!!

I see you say it was made here. Which company made it if you don't mind me asking.?

I wash everything new before using! Lord knows who or what has been touching my new items. lol.

I ruined a mattress cover doing this... The poor people at Macy's actually insisted on taking it back, too.

It's from Cuddledown. They are not cheap but many products are US made and I've had very good experience with their quality. I'm on the cusp of needing a new mattress so this is an effort to forestall.

Washed. Absolutely the right thing. Thanks to all for the excellent advise, as always!

Also another grateful shout out to Mitch for the Tide with Bleach tab which I used. I thought this load needed the muscle. The pad came out so soft and fluffy and the elastic ribbing that holds it in place completely changed texture in a good way.

@rococogurl, you are using those tablets with Detergent right? :) (In another post of yours I wasn't so sure, but as powerful as they are.. they still need some sort of detergent or water softener to fully activate)

I also wondered that Mich and Roc, I had the feeling Roc only used the Tide bleach tab, although she never said so..I'll bet she used those lovely Vaska tabs which I came to love for towels.

I guess I'm really dumb. I thought the Tide with Bleach tab was detergent. Looks to be about 2 Tb. I used the one tab to wash the bed pad. It did a perfect job.

I have a FL and we have a water softener. I have to be super careful. This was a lot for me. Usually I use 1/2 tb of Persil f.ex.

Just to be clear, I ONLY use the Vaska tabs on the towels -- 1/4 or 1/2 tab for most loads. And I only use fabric softener on the towels. That's because they are organic cotton from India and those fibers are fairly short.

I got a sample square of these super luxurious (and unaffordable) towels made in Switzerland from Supima cotton. Wanted to see what the fuss was about and the samples were big. I washed it. What we used to get here in the 80s when towels were still made in North Carolina. Wonderfully soft. No softener needed. Otherwise fugheddaboutit as we say in NYC

I don't use fabric softener on anything but towels. Bed pad is so fluffy and soft it certainly doesn't need it.
