conversion varnish finish and desk pads

I am not sure this is the correct forum but I need some help. We have a new custom desk top that has a conversion varnish finish on it. I need to put a clear desk pad to prevent scratching. The desk pads I am look at all say: " Not recommended for us on acrylic, lacquer or urethane finishes as material may mar finish." When I called the manufacturer they would not help. Can anyone tell me if the see-through plastic desk pads are safe with conversion varnish? My only other option, I guess, would be glass and I would like to avoid that if possible.

Non of which describe's yours. Conversion varnish is catalized to make it unaffected by everyday chemicals,and unlike those you named it cures 100% right away. Desk pads are used on commercially finished desks every day without effecting finish.

Klem 1: So, I can use the clear plastic pads without worrying about it damaging the conversion varnish? This would be GREAT news if true. Thanks so much for posting.

If you're worried about it, check it after a couple days and make sure it's not sticking, then after a week, a month, etc. I think the problem is they sort of bond to the finish, and you would notice it trying to stick.

The other issue is "plasticizer migration" This occurs when the chemicals in the plastic to keep it soft and flexible migrates into the finish and does the same thing to it. Whether or not it will affect your specific formulation of "conversion varnish" I don't know, but I 've seen a fair amount of it happen on a variety of finishes.
