Instead of drywall in over a window or door, do drapery the entire length of the wall. It will create a soft look that will work well with your furniture style. You can even do it double rod with a sheer just over actual window and then the drapes over the rest.

I don't think you need to get all new furniture...how about editing..do you need the narrow tall boy. Could you get smaller/modern side tables and move the bed to the middle of the room, so you could enjoy the view. New lamps, new layered bedding and light, modern art and your room will feel airy and more modern. I might paint the walls and if you don't need the fan, a chandelier will feel lighter.

Looks to me like your furniture fits very well. Live with it for a while. The house will tell you what to do.

With the height of your headboard and also the two posters (or whatever you call them) I wouldn't place under the window. Try moving the bed to the middle of the wall that it's on and get smaller side tables. As well, you wouldn't be able to easily watch tv if on dresser on the side well.
