Help with Designing Software

So, before we hire an architect, I wanted to draw or plan out a new layout of the house and was wondering what software/app do the professional architects use like in property brothers/love it out list it where they can draw out the walls and furniture???

5-10K professional versions. You don't need to take a sandwich to a banquet. Take your ideas only. The Pro will create the plans far far better than any amateur could hope to do.

sketchup is relatively easy to learn if you have some computer savvy. and it's free. you might be able to put a start of something together with that.

I agree with BLDG, use a free version of sketchup and you can do from a basic design of your house to a more professional design as you get better. There are many youtube videos how to use it, online training, etc Here is an example I did a house design for a project a while back when I was starting out using sketchup. As you get better you can switch to a more professional version and add some rendering plugins, etc. Not to mention you will have lots of fun working with it.

You can make all sorts of views and cross section details, etc it just to many things to list.

This is just to show you a quick rendering using Thea rendering engine for sketchup one of the first rendering engines I got which goes for about $400, there is cheaper rendering programs on the market depends what you using them for and there are more expensive, like the one I just got that goes for over 1k and there are also free rendering plugins you can get online, again depends what you using them for and how good of a quality image you need it to be.

Sky's the limit as capabilities of Sketchup go and if you get it and need help, just drop me a note and I can do a basic layout for you and send you the file and you can take it from there. You can also get a Home Designer software made by Chief Architect, they have a few versions available, very easy to use, easy to do layouts, and create 3d views and you can compare which version will be best for you... they also have a trial version available so you can see if this is something for you.

The only down part with that software is, if you want an extra feature you have to spend more money when the new version comes out, and if anyone is willing to offer some help, they have to use the same version or a lower version of the same program or you will not be able to open the file if they have a newer version. So basically they add new features every year the new version comes out, and if you want to have that, you have to upgrade and that will cost you. With Sketchup, they offer tons of free plugins, free models in a 3d warehouse and you can save files so they can be used in any version.
