Color advice

I bought charm packs to make my first quilt (lap sized). I'm making a disappearing nine patch. This is the color group. (That yellow turned out to be YELLOW.)

My initial plan was to do 5 florals and 4 whites, but it kind of looks washed out to me. If I put a dark one in the center, it helps, but I don't have enough dark squares to make it work.

So I decided to try a dark blue for the center. (It should end up kind of like a cornerstone.) When I got to the store with the charm pack, the light green grabbed me. I'm not sure about that because it would seem that one of the borders should then be lt. green. Of course, I could always bind it in that green or use it as a narrow border.

The lt blue seems too light.

The dark green did not photograph well.

This is the darkest blue they had. I might be able to find a better blue match for the darker blue.

So, what do you think will work best? Use the darker blue florals as the center as far as they go? Or, the blue or green? Look for a better match to the dark blue?

Given it's my first quilt, it won't be perfect, but I want it to be.

Yes, I love the disappearing 9 patch with white and the dark cornerstone. (I'm still debating the final layout, but it won't affect the 9 patch.) I went to a different Hobby Lobby and found the perfect blue for the center.

Now, I have nothing left to do on the quilt except cut the blue, put the machine back together and start sewing.

I like the darker color in the center block. Remember that one will be cut up and smaller overall. And I like the center being a solid; if you're going to use a solid color (not the white), then having it in the center is a good location.

You could use the solid dark blue as well as the solid dark green both as center squares, but that may effect your over layout.

Whatever you choose, I think it will turn out great. Those are all nice florals and great colors.

I like a solid fabric square in the center, especially if making the layout using it as a cornerstone and not using the normal D9P layout. The florals are really pretty.

I like the dark blue but any dark solid will look great. I'd use the same fabric fir all centers. I love the charm squares. They look bright and fresh and goes well with the white background squares.

I like the dark blue. 9 patch good choice for a first quilt. Don't go for perfect or it will look like a machine did it and it won't be fun. I did competition for a while and when it became more for the competition and less for the fun an beauty I lost the passion for it. Happy Quilting, it will be great!
