Congratulations on your new house. Looks like a spacious kitchen which could have a table near the pass-through window. Do you have a budget range in mind for current changes? Just for paint and new lighting? or new flooring, countertops, appliances and beyond?

I would remove the corner hutch. Have one paint color, paint the door and trim a solid white, paint the cabinets one solid color, upgrade flooring. Add a kitchen island with family seating .

No specific budget, but there are other things that need to be done in this house.

Or thinking about adding a back sliding door where the window is next to the door. To add extra light and also to eventually add a patio for entertaining.

Live in your new house before making any major reconstruction plans. One never has too many cabinets or storage.

I was thinking the same thing as the poster, install a large set of Windows/patio doors on the wall with the door.

I would keep the hutch and not paint it. I would paint the cabinets and wainscoting. It is an eat in kitchen. You should fit a table and chairs down toward the hutch.

I was thinking also maybe a breakfast nook at the pass through window. If it wasnt a support wall, I honestly would probably take the wall down. I love an open concept

I like the idea, live in it ifirst, but would be much easier to get it done before moving in, especially with a 1 yr old running around

Before you open it up for more light and it does have two windows already, I'd rip out the upper cupboards. Use ship lap to cover those upper cupboard spaces. Paint the entire room in a soft taupe. Paint the lower cabinets in a similar shade. Get new hardware for cupboards. You could have a large table for eating, doing homework, bill paying. At some point I'd open up the kitchen to the living space, replace cabinets and floors. You have room for an island also. First pic shows an island, second is upper shelves and lower cabinets. Also, paint the wainscoting in and trim in soft white. Once it's brightened up, curtains off the windows you'll see what needs to be done next more clearly.

In the meantime, while you're living with it for a while(1 yr), purchase some white paint and paint the cabinets. I assume that it will be a total gut job.

Lots of great space! Paint the cabinets, lose the scalloped valances, new or no window treatments, paint the walls, if you won't use the corner cabinet, that would be a great spot for a banquette and table, new light fixtures. Not sure what the floor is, would you keep it? New counters? I like the idea of taking down the wall between the kitchen and family room, you could also make the pass thru a large door opening, a lot less structural work. Counters and appliance are easy to do later. New cabinet hardware too! Congrats on your new home!

its a good space and got a lot of potential.
i dont think the cupboards are that bad, you could change the countertop to black shiny granite. i would def change the floor to something a bit more matching, black range cooker. you could open the hatch area up to conect kitchen and living area up so you can keep an eye on lil one while cooking.
