Rug other way. It needs to be pulled in more but gives you an idea

Try turning the rug so the long side is parallel to the hearboard but pull the rug down to the wall that is parallel to the hearboard and leave one foot space on the three sides not under the bed. Now the rug will show in the room. If that won't work pull it long side parallel to closet with one foot showing all around.

Like this; end of rug should show more in room. Pull it down as far as it will go to almost touch the wall.

This is a late question but how big is the room and is the bed queensize?

Here is a room with bed under the window and two matching small end tables that contrast. Lamps are neutral. Find dark grey nightstands that ar darker than the wall. Add a darking charcoal or darker color in the coverlet for a lined straight or ruffled dust ruffle.

If you move the bed under the window then find a large piece of art work with an outdoor scene and hang on the wall to the right of the bed. That will be the focal point of the room and the first thing you see when you enter the room.

If there is room add a small antique wood chair with a colorful pillow cushion that repeats colors found in curtains that you will add to the outside of each bed window. One long valance would be nice too and add more detail to the room.

But what ever you do bring in more contrast in two or three items. Lamps, end tables, coverlet on end of bed, art work, mats on framed pictures. You need contrast in probably THREE place in the room in the same color value and midtone or darker than what you have.

If you turn the rug you will need to move the bed over. As centered as you can leaving enough space for closet clearance.

I do like the idea of the floor lamp or round table and ottomans - perhaps in a brighter color? Thank you for the color suggestions for the nightstands, coverlet and lamps! If I did ottomans, should I look for something fabric that is in a different color family and not the gray I showed above in my picture? Should I do white nightstands? I do like the color of the room, but it is weird how regular gray fights it sometimes? If I did 2 ottomans, could I still put a tall chest in the corner or is that too much? Should the color of the chest match the nightstand? Thank you all again!

I think ottomans plus tall chest might be too much. I'd probably do one or the other. Even a chair in the corner facing bed would work. Ottomans I see more in master bedrooms to fill up space and provide spot to put extra blankets etc. If you are tight on space I would skip them

The chest doesn't have to match nightstands. But should coordinate.

So if a tall chest in the corner, no chest at the end of the bed? I feel like I need somewhere for them to sit other than the bed... maybe a chair is better? Are you thinking a lighter or darker wood? Would a mirrored nightstand be good?

I like the suggestion of the bed in front of the windows, but there are considerations to this arrangement, such as are the windows well insulated so that it's not too cold to put your head there. Also, I get that you want to maximize space, however, since this is a guest bedroom and not a "functional" bedroom, you can luxuriate your guests with a beautiful space, and still have it be functional.

The idea of a floor lamp on one side and night stand on the other is a good suggestion. I would tend to keep the paint colors on the light side and perhaps add pops of color with art on the walls.

If you keep the bed away from the windows, the configuration shown by Susan 2494 is a very nice way to finish off the windows.

I think you need to pick appropriate size based on space.

I have a similar layout guest bedroom. I kept bed where yours is so my guest can open windows. Your bed frame will block some of the light too. Keep bed as is. Center as much as you can and fill in dead space with chair, lamp, small table etc. And it's easier to get in and out of bed for a couple when you have clearance on both sides.

The Restoration Hardware comes in 24" as well. But I don't think you need to get so elaborate. They aren't cheap! Unless you catch a good deal!

The images with the rug and RH hardware are master bedroom. Not my guest room :)

I also had a handyman put in sliding closet doors fairly inexpensive. Maybe down the road something to consider.

If I use a floor lamp, do I also need a lamp on the nightstand since I have an overhead light? I'm thinking the answer is yes, but I struggle with every decision, so that's something else to buy. lol.

Yes if you get floor lamp you should do bedside lamp too. For balance :)

What color is your wall? You might try a weathered grey or blue. I can't see what colors are on your bedspread.

With patterned rug and bedspread you might want to do solid curtain panels. Maybe with some texture vs pattern. Target usually carries some.

What's your light fixture?

The paint is Benjamin Moore Sterling (1591). It can look very light gray or just have a bit of a blue hue. Here are pics of the bedding and carpet - might be too close up.

The light is a small white ceiling fan.

From the above pics, I'm seeing more creams and taupe shades vs blues and white. Not sure if it's just the light.

I think your nightstand need to contrast and done in a color deeper tone that you already have in the room so could be grey black brown wood tone to match the flooring and or blue. Also need art work with some of those colors too.

I agree! Sorry I forgot you had wood floors. Bring in some wood tones. Perhaps light wood restoration hardware type finish?

Thank you again! I haven't been able to move the carpet yet, but I did go in a put a few diff pieces of color in there over a black outdoor table. I'm not the biggest fan of yellow (but I love that yellow chair, Susan 2494 and the yellow/gray pillow so I could be swayed). Where did you find the yellow chair? I like the pop of coral, but don't think it is probably trendy.Maybe even a pop of coral in the art on the walls?If I'm getting rid of the trunk & putting in a chair, then I don't need to worry about that color piece. I put the piece you had shown me earlier as well, S. Mistry (I like it a lot, but not sure it is the right color). And a darker brown piece.

I think I have decided to flip the carpet, center the bed on the same wall and look for 2 nightstands (maybe in a shade of gray), a small console type table and a chair - not sure what just yet.
