Wall space above the fireplace

Hello,

We just moved into this large home this past summer. One of the biggest challenges is what to do with the wall space above the fireplace. The space above the fireplace is approximately 10 feet high and 15 feet wide. What do you think would look best? While the picture doesn't show it, the ceilings are Cathedral. The space is approximately 15 feet wide and 20 feet long. Any advice would be welcome. Please disregard the mess, I have been shifting thins around while we are busy renovating another part of the home

How about a shallow horizontal tapestry -- just the suggestion of traditional to go with the arched windows, but nothing too high. Don't be too worried about filling in space to the ceiling, high rooms are meant to feel spacey. This size/shape shape gives you just enough height without looking overwhelming. (I didn't check what sizes are available for this Van Gogh one, but the URL is below.)

I would put a large round mirror with at least a five inch wide frame around it in dark wood. Add two large vases on each side.

Are you content with the bricks around the fireplace? If not, you can mix flat white paint with water and whitewash the brick just to update it a little or leave it as it is. Solid pieces of granite or porcelain tile or marble are always nice too. I love the shape of your fireplace and I like that the Windows echo that round shape. I agree that a round heavy framed mirror would look great and help bounce light around the space as well. Good luck and post pics!

Hey Djellenburg,

I have been contemplating whether or not to paint the brick. It has been a difficult decision because once I apply paint it's a done deal!
