Is the wall color staying?

And have you considered a rug, to keep the table from disappearing into the floor?

Either of these styles could work. I like the simplicity of the white drum shade.

Hi Er - for the short term the wall color is staying. The rest of the kitchen is cream with black granite and stainless appliances. The room is very bright due to so many windows. Unfortunately when I took the photo today it's cloudy and I didn't turn the light on. The walls look darker than actual.

As you are leaving the windows open I would opt for the drum shade as suggested already. It will soften the bare windows add an architectural interest and brighten up the room.

As for pillows the room is so neutral that i would have seasonal changes throughout the year. Rustic for winter, colorful for spring, beach for summer and industrial for fall.

I would try a testured neutral Woven Roman shade for the left window. Natural and neutral

I'd love to add new color(s) to the pillow array. Here's a closer shot of the what the pillows look like up closer. They are mostly blue and green. I like the idea of adding orange. :)

Also - I do love drum shades, however. When you walk into my front door, I have one in the foyer. (Here's a quick pic):

Regardless of repeating a similar lighting style, I don't think I could do a drum shade in this space. Notice the skylight centered over the table. I'd need two lights scaled appropriately due to the skylight over the center of the table.They would be have to be smaller drums, plus I was hoping to do something different there.

Anything else that might work?

Looks like you are going to do pendants! It will be great with a colorful rug and more pillows.

Make a list of what you want the room to be and see what you come up with.

Or look on Houzz for an inspiration room and copy it.....Brainstorm for possibilities!

Maybe you really want a new dining set but this one is fairly new but you hate it, etc. Address your wants honestly and see what you end up with. Maybe new chairs etc.

I like the pendants in your very first picture and I like the idea of a few pops of orange. Add some great art where the sconces are now. Maybe a woven wood blind where your miniblinds are?

Do at least consider wood vertical blinds for any patio doors w/matching wood blinds for your windows -- available in finishes that rage from very light to very dark.

Breakfast room floors look great -- would definitely not hide them with a rug.

If you're leaving your three windows -- two standard w/one fixed window -- in the first pic w/o any window covering, seriously consider getting a pair of hanging brackets for above the left and right window for a hanging basket for flowers or greenery -- (my personal favorite is heart shaped philodendron for year round green that's easily maintained) -- or even strawberry plants.

If you do opt for hanging a pair of flower pots, choose the heavy duty brackets with the longer reach to increase your options with regard to the size and weight of the pot you can hang.

You could put any pot with a drainage tray in a braided hanger

or, my preference, you could choose one of the thicker, better quality green plastic hanging pots with affixed drain trays that can be watered from the bottom, preferably those with the most vertical sides you can find rather than those that are narrow at the bottom and wider at the top, and preferably with a metal top hook that swivels rather than a fixed plastic one.

Hi Suzbel - thanks for responding. Unfortunately much of what you shared won't work for my space/style.

I have a black thumb, I won't add more plants to that window. Plus I want to be able to enjoy the plants growing outside in the garden there. Bare minimum plants inside.

I'm going for a more transitional aesthetic. I'm not a fan of verticals - certainly not for french doors. I'm also not a ceiling fan person.

I have a skylight above the long kitchen table. There's no way I can hang any single light fixture above the table given that situation anyway.

For this space, I want bright, happy colors, comfy, a more tailored look if anything.. I want the space to look like an interior designer did it. :) I love color and am not afraid to use it appropriately.

I wish there was a version of the chandelier in your second photo that was split in half so I could hang one half on one side of the skylight and one on the other side. It's really pretty!

I've been thinking about doing a simple tailored roman shade for the window on the left. If I added some orange pillows, could I do the roman shade neutral but with orange grosgrain? Or should I be safer and go with green or blue?

You could absolutely do a roman shade with orange grosgrain if you add orange pillows.

I'm starting to think that off-center skylight above the table is really going to ruin our chance to get the lighting right in this space, isn't it? :(
