Searching for a particular dog comb

I have two large black dogs, half Lab, half Pointer. Short thick hair.

Because we live in the country the dogs love to roll around either in grass or dirt areas. My wood floors and furniture get extremely dusty (that's an understatement), and I finally figured out it's from the dogs.

When they come inside I've been using both a bristle and wire brush. All that does is raise dirt from their coat, but doesn't get half of it out. I can see streaks of dirt on top of their coat after I've brushe them, so I know there is a lot more down there.

They love being combed as soon as they come inside, but I need a comb that can bring all the dust to the surface.

I've looked online and the only comb that may do it is a Curry Comb. Is this what I want or is there specific comb that does the trick?

Thanks, Ann. I don't think a microfiber towel would help because I need something that goes to the skin and somehow lifts the dust out. I do think a towel would help once I get the dust to the top.

I have the water-free shampoo, but it only cleans the top coat.

Think of a thick carpet where someone poured a jar of fine dirt in it. That's what I'm dealing with. I guess I could vacuum the dogs. ;)

I think instead of a comb for catching dust you need a large microfiber towel. Try one dry or moistened and see if that helps.

There is also a water-free shampoo that you could try along with the microfiber towel.

I live on a small farm, and this year we have had an extended "mud season" since it's been a very mild winter. I know all about the dirt that dogs bring in. When it's nice out, I brush them outside instead of inside. And I make sure I wipe them down when they have mud on them, but they still bring it in.

I think vacuuming them wouldn't be a bad idea, if they will let you!

Oak, I use the Zoomgroom by Kong for my lab and it does a great job at grooming. I can't say what it does in regards to dirt, mine doesn't get down and roll in it, but for shedding and brushing it's better than a comb or wire brush because it grabs the undercoat but doesn't scrape at their skin. It's rubber and fits nicely in your hand.

Thanks, Luck. I'm going to have to get it then. Yesterday was funny, 30 minutes after I brushed the dogs someone came over and asked if the dogs had brindle in them. It was the dust he was looking at! That's what I'm dealing with.

:c(. oh...not good, but maybe the zoom groom will help. At the very least your dogs will probably love being brushed with it. All I have to do is say pretty and our girl is all over it! The thicker bristles massage their skin and it feels good to them.
