What varieties? Not all tomatoes are the same. :)

For determinates and semi-determinates 10 gallon works for me because I use drip irrigation set-ups. But indeterminates do better with 15 gallon. For the really big indeterminates like Sun Gold even bigger works best.

Also, in your climate, keep in mind that the bigger the container is the less you have to water and the easier it is to maintain the soil moisture levels, reduce BER issues, and stabilize nutrient levels. This assuming they are filled with a quality soil-less mix.

Thanks Dave-- I think I will be going with 15 gallon size. But now I see that they make different types -- some with felt to help with watering. I'm going to give a couple a try. To expensive keep buying big pots. And.yes I realize that the larger the plant the larger the pot

Dave probably thinks that you are in AZ, someplace like Phoenix. That is what I used to think. But anyway, on the bag size , I agree with Dave. Though , I personally tend to choose smaller containers.

The bigger the container , less the challenge. As the size of container gets bigger it approaches to in raised bed.

I have used grocery store bags , mostly for peppers.

Yes Dave I have their catalog in my hand and considering ordering from them. The air up here is not dry especially when the monsoons come. I only had to water just once after June last year.

Love to know how well these grow bags work... The gopher problems is HORRIBLE in my garden, they've gotten into my raised beds that have hardware wire underneath which I installed with a lot of hard work and struggle. I think the bags might be the answer until I can get in there and repair the wire. Since you and other experienced growers use them they probably work well. I'm going to order some in various sizes... Thanks for the idea...

I have used grocery store reusable bags last couple of years. They work fine and since are made mostly from nylon are durable. Some WalMart stores have good ones for 99 cents.

These bags are good for small determinants , dwarf and some small chili peppers.I have some that are about 7 gallons. I like them better than buckets. One of their advantages is aeration. Roots get more oxygen. Another advantage is better drainage. This can help where you get a lot of rain (unwanted water). Yet other advantages : cost effectiveness and ease of handling and storage.

The Walmart blue bags are on sale for $.50 cents -i bought some today

Very good, Lar. My local Walmart did not carry them last year. I have Fred Meyers bags. But Walmart's look more sturdy and probably bigger.
