What a GREAT first quilt! Good job. You can stitch-in-the-ditch vertically and horizontally so it would be just squares, or you could SID on the diagonal. If you have ever tried free-motion quilting, that would be fun also. I would probably use a white thread (if that is the background color in your fabric). Sue

Nice job, I love the colors. I have quilted most of my life and still have seams that just don't cooperate. I intend for my quilts to be used so I don't worry about an unhappy seam.

As for the quilting, decide how it will be used and how you want it to look. Stitch in the ditch, or an all over pattern will be most durable. If you stitch in the ditch around the colored areas then quilt heavily in the white areas, the colored areas will puff up and the white areas will recede.

Love that quilt! Great colors and fabrics! I'd probably quilt a diagonal grid on that quilt - that is one of my favorite ways to quilt a baby quilt with definite vertical and horizontal blocks. Start in one corner and quilt a line all the way to the other side, continue onto the next block, starting in the upper left corner. Once you have quilted through all the blocks in one diagonal direction, do the same across the quilt in the other direction.

Most of the time, seams will go where you want them to. Other times there might be a few that want to do their own thing. No problem, just keep sewing. Your quilt and the colors look fine to me. Good job!

That's a great first quilt. Don't fret the mismatched seams. Just enjoy the process of putting fabric together and making a piece of art.

I think a diagonal grid will be great too for quilting.

In case anyone is interested, I got the printed fabric at Walmart, when I wasn't even looking. It came in a 5 pc pack and was only $4.99. I washed it first and thought the quality for the cost was very good. I just loved the colors. Also, I will take the stitching on the diagonal suggestion and try it. I've read and watched videos on free motion quilting but haven't practiced that yet. Thanks again for all the comments. I'm already looking forward to my next project. I'm so bad, I have fabric for at least 3 new projects waiting in the wings.

I would quilt it a quarter inch from each vertical, horizontal and diagonal seam line. I think that would give you triangles inside triangles.
