You need very good light to use a dark color in a small space or it will close in on you....Overhead as well as accent (Sconce) lighting would be ideal.....how about a roman shade for window (fabric or woven grass) Seems like you have a different tile in next space...Perhaps not square tiles and I would not do white grout....one for cleaning reasons and two it will create a grid on the floor that really sticks out (unless that is what you are going for)....I don't know what the vanity from Ikea looks like, but this seems like a small space...just make sure the door will still open:)....could use some artwork on the wall....and I would use another tp holder option that is not mounted to the wall (it will really stick out with darker walls!......painting the base trim white or same as other trim.

Lighting with a bit of glitz would brighten it up a bit (crystals/glass beads or....etc).

Actually this is almost exactly a design I did for a client last year. The purple works because you have a window that brings in light. The problem is that the light can make it look cold. So you need to "warm" it up with visual cues: either gold or silver accents that bring out the warmth in the gold. We went for a retro look and found a fantastic poster of a 1930s racing car and hung it on the wall.

My only suggestion is that grey tile with white grout might make it cold - you need something with orange tints to bring out the purple - so go for coffee colour tiles.

The lighting is important in the evening - I found a great drum shade in coffee colours that echoed art deco lighting - but this is just a suggestion - you could go baroque overkill in gold or silver for fun!

After all a powder room is used for short periods of time - entertain or interest people while they are in there!

Not sure how much you want to spend. If you are going all out, then get rid of the tile and put in wood. New lights and a framed mirror will pull your eyes to that area. About the only way to get storage is to do a small sink with a cabinet. You could mount a narrow shelf above the door for a few small baskets to hold things like t.p. And of course, paint the walls and add some pictures on the wall you face when you walk in.

What color wood, also I like the backsplash. Should I do just the section above the sink or the whole wall

I prefer darker woods. Lighter woods such as a light oak would date the powder room back to the 80s-90s. The Santos Mahogony and the Rainier Oak may be dark, but have a bit of warmth to them. You don't have to match the cabinet color to the flooring, but picking out the vanity first will help you decide on the flooring color. If you put a small vanity in the bath you can put in a framed mirror above it with a gold or silver colored frame (someone mentioned painting the bath purple and the gold would accent the color beautifully.) Check Marshall's or T.J. Maxx Home Goods for great mirror deals. A large mirror will help add light to the room. You could then tile between the back splash of the vanity and the mirror, unless you can buy a higher back splash piece and touch it to mirror. If you tile use the tiny tiles...the room is too small for big tiles. Get some flooring samples, arrange them in the bath and step back and look at it from outside the room and in the different light during the day. You can get small paint samples for under $5 ea at the major home improvement stores. Since you are going to repaint anyway, put some colors on the walls and look at it with different flooring selections. There are several colors that would work wonders in this room, depending on the accents you use. Also, have you thought about painting the inside of the bathroom door and the trim white? It will really change the appearance of the room too and freshen the look.

Do you think I should continue the backsplash all the way to the other wall? Meaning from the edge behind the mirror over behind the toilet to the wall.

What about a purple wallpaper? I think a gray tile with white grout could be very cool.
