Wondering if these two sitting chairs complement the existing furniture and layout of this room (slightly cooler grey than the couch)? If the chair backs are lower than the height of the couch is that something to worry about? And also is this the best arrangement of furniture (for the couch,chairs, ottoman) the upright piano will stay on the short wall where the small piano pendant is, and tv will stay as is as we don't want to do any rewiring. We tried turning the couch to face the television but things seemed more closed off and crowded. This is mostly a conversation space. Although my husband and I will watch tv here on a weeknight. The room is open to the dinning space and kitchen. Thank you for your suggestions!!

Hi laineash. Before a response, a couple questions: A-can the piano live anywhere else? If the room were a ship it would capsize and sink because ALL of the visual weight wraps the corner, from piano to fireplace to Media cabinet. Very unbalanced, visually. B-can you provide an image taken from the fireplace wall, toward the recliner? FTR, although I see Rina's point, I am not sure I agree at all. I think any chairs you place there will be awkward in some way because of the point made in A

Er, no, sorry. Those chairs don't work, I think. The greys do clash (on my screen), and they're not the ideal shape. Too low and too wide, and in a different style.

And to fiddle where we weren't asked to comment, in fine Houzz style -- a bigger rug? And I think you might try having the recliner facing the TV directly.

The problem for me is the gray theme, and in this room the ottoman takes up too much room...it looks like there is nowhere to walk. The low chairs would be nice in a bedroom. If the room really is as small as it appears, the furniture may need to be against the walls, with fewer pieces. Add some color in accessories.

The chairs look uncomfortable. I would just move the recliner over to the left to face TV and you will be done.

I also think you don't need two more chairs in that room. They cause the room to be too crowded.

I suppose the piano could move but not ideal, when we have company over to play music we hang out together in this room on the couch, chairs with a few guitars, it's more comfortable.

I wonder if we were to move this couch and swivel brown recliner to the bonus room upstairs, and nix the two grey chairs, and start fresh with furniture what could I do differently? A larger rug, and four chairs? Or a sectional?

Hi again laineash. Form must always follow function. That said, I think you should nix the two small chairs so you can keep the piano in the room where you use it. You definitely have space to place a club chair AND ottoman to the left of the piano in some form or fashion, based on what I can see. Perhaps cheat the piano a little further to the right. You do need a larger rug as pointed out by some other contributors. VERY nice space, btw. You have a really nice vibe started.
