Want to update a 70's red brick corner

I am moving into a house built in 1977. The corner fireplace is red brick and covers 1/2 of the wall. The ceiling in vaulted. Please help.

I love brick, but the part that slopes up is really distracting, and the piece on the wall with the door. You can do Sheetrock above the mantel, and either mount the tv on the fireplace, or hang a picture. Or Sheetrock or tile the whole fireplace. For me the dark narrow trim around the door also dates the room. You need some art hung around the tv to give that wall some interest and color, then pick colors from the art for pillows and maybe a rug to define the space.

Try getting rid of the fireplace and installing a wood burning stove.

Do you want minimize or change the look of the fireplace or are you interested in changing layout, style and color choices. The current wall color is very warm and inviting.

Is that the front entry that we see?

If you wish to change the layout, it would be nice to move the sofa to angle in front of the fireplace. The chair could be moved to the right end of the sofa. .(at a right angle to the sofa.) The coffee table could then be in the L formed by sofa and chair. Pull some of the end tables away from the wall. You have a lovely large room.

If the fireplace bothers you, the mantel could be removed. I really do like the warmth of the brick, but it could be cut down by facing much of the brick with drywall and moldings to approximate the country look. the tv could then be mounted above the fireplace to keep one focal point in the room

How about a whitewash on the brick or painting it a soft white?

You could just plaster over it - but I'd be tempted to white wash it first - and if you don't like it - then call a plasterer in !

I would paint out the brass features with a high heat metal paint/ either change to silver or black depending on your taste. I like the idea of trying a whitewash on the bricks. Will you be leaving the carpet?

This would drive me crazy. The wall has a beam running right down the middle. The fireplace is off center and the whole room feels like it's listing to the left, like a boat because the brick wall is so heavy and the other half of the wall in the room which is split in half by the cathedral celing is empty and white. If I could, I'd drywall over the fireplace and go get a beautiful free floating contemporary Malm fireplace with a ventilating tube. This room needs centering.

Small room. Planning to re floor with laminate curly Koa wood. Chimney area needs update look. Suggestions? Also could TV be mounted above due to limited space?
