choosing granite counter tops or quartz

we are so torn on what to choose. any recommendations will be helpful.

1st picture is the granite, paint color, woodlike tile and cabinets(java) that we originally chose.

2nd picture is of the entire granite counter top at the model home, only difference was the white cabinets.

3rd picture is a photo that we found online that resembled the granite counter top with dark cabinets.

4th picture is the white quartz counter top, with dark cabinets, that we are thinking about switching over to.

I've had white and I've had 'busy' granite. I saw every drop and crumb on the white. I can't see a thing on the granite unless the sun is shining on it just so.

I like the granite you picked. It's really pretty.

Either seems nice. I'm not really a fan of busy granite, so if you're looking for votes I'll say switch to the white.

I went with quartz as granite needs to be sealed every year to protect from stains as it is porous and can be stained by red wine

I've had my dark granite for 15 years, not sure it was ever sealed. Nothing stains it, and I cut directly on it (no cutting board) and I put hot pots on it. Just my experience...

Your selection of granite is quite beautiful, but from experience our clients lean more towards Quartz. Quartz counter tops are more durable compared to granite counter tops. They require less maintenance and unlike granite, quartz doesn't require sealing. Because Quartz counter tops are man made the color of the counter top stay consistent all through out.

It really is up to you. Granite is beautiful and unique, but if you decide to go with granite be prepared for the little extra maintenance.

one thing I forgot to mention, is that I cook a lot. will that make a big difference?

I think you can find a quartz that looks very similar to the granite you chose. Cambria has some quartz where the patterns are just like the granite. I have quartz and recommend it to everyone

I've had granite in my kitchen for 15 years and never resealed. I have never had any staining. Never had any issues.

The thing you haven't said is why you're thinking of switching. Your original combination looks great -- what made you reconsider?

@acm when my wife and I went to the design Center to choose the cabinets, flooring and countertops. I was originally eying the all white quartz counter top. the first thing we chose waswas the paint for the walls. second thing we chose was the Java cabinets, then the granite counter top, and last was the flooring. the reason why we didn't chose the quartz, was because it was more expensive at the time.
now after looking good at online photos, my wife had had a change of heart.

Look at it from this direction. I think that a less busy Quartz has a more modern,clean vibe. The granite, while ubiquitous these days, seems to have a more traditional vibe and while "busy" may have a negative sound to it, granite does add busyness (can't think of a nicer word at the moment) Which direction are you heading? Is it a very modern kitchen? Is the surrounding area designed in a more traditional way?
