Kitchen Backsplash Advice

My husband and I desperately need advice for picking a backsplash. We have taken close to 100 samples home but have not been able to make a decision. The pictures below show that we have cognac maple cabinets and negresco honed granite countertops with a gray porcelain floor tile with movement.

I worry about finding a backsplash that clashes too much with our busy floor and about making the kitchen too dark as it already has several huge dark elements.

We also need to choose a paint color.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is our first (and probably last) kitchen remodel.

If you want to make it a bit more modern...simplify it, use a painted glass backsplash, it's simple clean & won't compete with your tiles. You could choose any colour...I would lean towards the lighter grey of you tiled floor. You can keep the glass glossy so its not too modern.

white or steel subway tiles would probably be safe with your cabinets/appliances

Beautiful cabinets and floors.

Not advice, but another choice. We just painted the walls. No tile backsplash. We thought we'd paint until we could decide on tile and then just liked it and it will stay for now.

This picture was taken the day before the trim was put on the windows. It looks a little better with the windows finished.

Consider using a lite grey subway tile in a larger format, say 3x6.

I think it would look better with a 4 to 6" strip of your countertop material as the backsplash. Its a very commom mistake to see someone trying to force a mosaic or subway or other decorative backsplash in a kitchen where it doesnt work visually.

I would choose a solid color tile, rectangular, in the exact shade as your grey tile floor (choose the darkest grey that is in your floor tile). Choose as your paint color the lightest grey that is in your floor tile. If you have an extra piece of the tile it makes it easy to take along as a sample - choose the backsplash tile first and then choose the paint, in that order.
