Our dock was built in 1984. It has served us well, but it was way past time to replace the decking. So here's Charlie removing the spindles so we can replace the deck.

One thing led to another, and the dock pretty much had to be rebuilt. Underneath was really rotted. So here is our new dock. And yes, we are trying to get someone out here to rethatch the tiki. That is sad!

Well, I didn't come here to show off my dock. I had a lot of wood planks and spindles that I refused to let be hauled away to the dump. So much to Charlie's dismay, we are building things for my plants. (He hates any carpentry.)

Here's our first plant cart. I sealed both sides, top and underneath. It's on heavy metal casters.

I have a lot of wood left, so there will be at least one more cart. And who knows what else! Maybe some plant stands? We'll see . . .

On wheels to move out of the rain? Or in/out of sun?

I'm on sort of a lake. It's brackish water on an artificial inlet from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caloosahatchee River. So I get salt water fish, dolphins (who eat the bigger fish before I can catch them!) and manatees. I have tides and get storm surges, too. I think they dredged these 'lakes' when they were trying to fill the swampland. To drain the area we have over 400 miles of canals. Luckily, I have not seen any gators in our waters.

Yes, the wheels will help in moving plants out of the rain, and especially storms. On those rare winter days when I need to move them inside the protected lanai, it will come in handy. They pretty much stay out in the sun all year long.

Nice job. A girl after my own heart. I have about four or 5 of these rolling carts. I use big 4" wheels with locks., they go over door treads much easier. I need to roll in for the major cold fronts. As winter approaches I will separate my plants out to how cold sensitive they are and roll in the ones that need it and leave out the ones that don't. The "living area looks like a parking lot of bad women drivers on the really bad cold fronts.

I have learned to not make them too large because once loaded up, I need to be able to get them over the tread.

Dolphins and manatees, oh my. Great job on the reuse - I've got some reclaimed lumber myself that's being made into boxes this year. And the potting table outside is from our old deck, too (without the manatees and dolphins, sadly). It's immobile by nature, but yours is very much nicer. Are you going to put legs on it?

I think I might make Vanda pots if I had extra decking and lived in Fla.

    Nil, something like this?

    Canda be Vanda??

Wantonamara - I think you posted pictures of your project once. You gave me the inspiration. Plus, I like to recycle and reuse just about everything.

Nil - funny you should mention that. Charlie and I were just wondering what happened to the 3 redwood Vanda Pots we had. They were on wheels and I loved them. Poof! How did we not notice their disappearance?

Cactusmcharris - I did not plan legs for that cart and I now regret it. So the next one will be taller! I don't see why we can't add legs to this one later.

I'm really trying to clear off my hot tub so we can actually use it. LOL

Cactusmcharris, I was thinking more like this, http://www.quarteracreorchids.com/cobatrfepr.html

But those ceramic ones are nice.

LOL, Dave! I don't post pictures of my lousy projects!

Speaking of designed by grandpa - I am refinishing an old farm table. Charlie's great grandfather made it for their dining table in 1910. It has tons of paint on it. We figured it was a mishmash of woods, mostly Mississippi pine, and it is less that 4 feet in diameter. WELL - It's hand hewn, very rough with tool marks, has square nails and the wood is pecan! Now this old eyesore is gaining my respect. I may move it out of the garage! LOL

    Crenda

Great about the table, pecan - hand hewn - square nails - ppl pay thousands for such today ans it doesn't need to look 'perfect'. I love anything reclaimed-recycled.

Might be worthwhile to attach a rope at each end for easy pulling (or is there already rope there and I don't see it?)

That's a good idea, EZ. I don't have anything to push or pull by at the moment.
