I'd opt for some cabinetry around it and forget the two flanking pictures. Looks like you have a lovely arched doorway to the left. I think the large pics would be a distraction from the TV.

Just make sure your cords don't show and you have space for electronics

I agree, a console below, no pictures competing with the tv.

I would add a feature wall into the room and add it on to the wall which the TV is on. I would also include Manon Floreat's idea of laying cabinets along the wall. What do you think of the grey and black effect below:

Here's another creative option: Let the TV be just one of many framed objects on the wall to create a salon/gallery effect, with paintings, prints, travel souvenirs and collectibles creating a collage you love to look at, including the TV, all above a low console as recommended by others above. You can choose to do it with symmetry or asymmetry as your taste prefers. For a more planned look, make all the frames black. For a more collected look, don't worry about matching frames. Have fun!

I like the idea of hanging something on either side of the tv. Possibly some floating shelves?? This way you can swap out the decor/art as you please and never have to worry about new holes in the wall:) Then add a very simple entertainment console underneath to house the electronics and hide the cords.

Another idea beyond a piece of furniture *(which is a great suggestion) is also to add some thin decorative stacked stone if you are looking to add texture, color and value to the space. Here's a photo of friends wall done with it. This stuff runs $6-8/sf for the stone, then you have labor cost...unless you are handy and do it yourself!

Can't tell much by the one photo but based on the edges of the chairs you are skewing kinda traditional. So keep it simple and build layer by layer intead of throwing to see what sticks.

Put in a long (but slender) console. It would be used to hide the television components and if you find something that straddles midcentury and traditonal with an interesting front it would serve to draw the eye down instead of to the tv.

If you are doing the pictures you would be better off going with a coordinated grouping of pictures. Sometimes when we have pictures or frames of the dimensions you mention then all you end up looking at are big blocks on a wall. You may also want to find some old fabric from the middle east or old Indian Sari fabric and getting it framed and then hanging it above the tv. A bit wider than the TV but not as wide as the console. Then you can accent the top of the console with pottery and family pictures and then a grouping of smaller frames on either side of the TV. Here is an admittedly over the top idea, but the concept is what is important - it can work with a quilt or even a favorite fabric, which could fall to the floor, although I agree, a console as well would be perfect. Note how very fine tracks flank the TV, so the tapestry can be attached on the sides for controlled up and down motion.

Here is another idea, wittily offbeat, found on Houzz, an ornate picture frame, which can be toned down by painting it the wall color, used to surround the TV and make it "art" The console below would stand in for the mantle, grounding the whole setup:

my suggestion is a narrow (depth) media table under the tv and then surround the tv with MANY pieces of art..the tv then will become lost in the menagerie of art :)

Like the gray wall with black framed art best BUT that can be distracting when TV is ON.

Wires... They drive my mother crazy. She did not want the TV hard-wired so I had her TV mounted just above her console table, and then bundled the wires with twist ties and attached them to the back of her console with Velcro. Used the Velcro to run the wire bundle along the back side of the top to a back leg and then tied the bundle to the leg with fishing line. Later, I found a rigid wire cover at a home store and covered the wire bundle with it, then tied the wire cover to the back of the console leg. It sounds like a lot of work, but it works and hides the wires.

dawn I can't seem to link from my phone, but check out pottery barns rolling cabinet media solution. it hangs on the wall then slides closed with pretty doors to hide TV. they have 3 or 4 styles.

Have you considered creating an accent wall as a feature focal point of the room? You could go with a darker colour paint or even a splash of colour if you are comfortable with that. You could also keep it the same colour and then add some stencil artwork from Twelve O'Clock Dream.

Yes your Tv is floating around on that wall. You could purchase an electric fireplace with mantle and put the TV over it. Would add a focal point to your room and something pretty when your Tv is not on.

But I have the same problem but it's even harder because the wall rounds into the foyer on the left side of the tv, so it's hard to put anything there that looks right!

You should get a much, much larger TV with a stereo cabinet below to house your cable box, receiver, and DVD player.
