Trying to identify a cactus

Hey everyone, I was hoping to ask for your help in identifying this cactus my girlfriend bought for me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Alex,

You need draining hole for your cactu. You need get rid off those glue rocks. It will kill your plant. Try to get soil gritty mix. If you cant find it, you could also try using cactus/succulent soil adding perlite. (do not use miracle soil). Get a pot with holes.

I usually water my cactus once every two weeks until water comes out from the draining holes but i am using gritty mix, so it will dry very fast.

Cactus hate water so it would survive from underwater than overwater.

Make sure check the soil first, use something to stick inside the soil (wood) , if its a little wet, Wait.. do not water until it completely dry.

Make sure the pot has draining holes. Any glue on the rocks?

Thanks Dan, The rocks are glued together. I'm new to all this, and not certain the implication of that. I was planning on watering it about 1 cup of water a week. It's currently in a small bathroom with 2 LED lights.

Also the pot has no drainage holes.

The plant needs drainage, otherwise it will eventually rot.

You need to get pot with holes or you can drill them into existing pot using appropriate drill bit.

It should be potted in a well draining mix, one that contains some grit (not rocks), and perlite. If you can't get grit, buy at least a bag of perlite. It should be screened/sifted to get rid of dust, and large amount of it mixed with soil - 50/50 or little more of perlite.

The glued-on rocks could be prayed off, maybe using a screwdriver. They could be used for a top dressing, but not used to make a mix. Watering frequency and amount would depend on the mix and also light and temperature plant is in.

LED lights help. Plant need lots of light. Not sure about the bathroom - in case it is very humid, it isn't best location for succulents.

Rocks as top dressing are just fine, but not glued. I think they do it so rocks & soil don't spill during shipping? If re-potting and replacing the soil, try to get off as much of original soil from the root ball as possible. Shake it off, pick with help of chopstick or bamboo skewer. If it happens to be very dry & doesn't want to come off the roots easily, you can gently swish it in bowl of tepid water (peat is notorious for being either too wet, or it may dry as hard as a brick and very difficult to re-wet - it is hydrophobic).

The more holes, better for your cactus since you are using dark soil. Dark soil is usually wet and your cactus roots,, cannot stay wet for many days. Try to make more holes on the pot adding perlite to your soil , so it will dry out a little faster.

It needs sunlight. (at least 3 hours a day)
