She might try pressure washing the house to see if that freshens it. I'd remove the shutters on the bow window. Shutters should look like they're made to close over the windows, and so multiple windows shouldn't have them. The brackets for window boxes look silly under the large window, so unless they're actually supporting a weakness in the window, remove them, and remove the window boxes from the other windows. I prefer functioning shutters or ones that look like they could close over the window, but she may want to keep what she has on the right windows until they can be upgraded. I think I'd try window boxes on the lower windows where you can actually water and maintain real plants in them. She should get larger house numbers and move them right of the door, about where the brackets are now. When her budget allows, rewire to have larger lantern lights flanking the door. Prune the bush on the left and consider moving that plant that's in front of the lower window.

then, I would paint the front door a contrasting color such as SW Silken Peacock. Given the lack of light in the image, it is difficult to get a correct read on the house's colors. in any respect, I would suggest a new front door color that offers some contract to orange red brick and cream colored siding.

in respect to painting the shutters if your friend keeps them, I would not paint them white.

is that ehe front door that is shown in the picture or is it the safety door? whatever it is, it seems to be black in the image. if she has to have a safety door, then I would look for a solid glass safety door with a metal edge that matches the almond color of the adjacent sidelights.

Thank you. Getting rid of the shutters on the bow window has been in discussion. For now she wants to keep the shutters on the smaller windows. Any suggestions for a paint color for them? I will mention the bush in front of the lower window. I think they started some landscape work in the fall and were going to continue this spring. She likes the idea of the larger house numbers to the right. I personally love that color for the door, that may be too bold for her though. The house is a beige color with a slight green undertone. The front door has a storm door and both are burgundy so it looks dark. I think she is going to change out the storm door with an almond color frame.

I agree about the shutters on the bow window if she wants to keep the others paint them a blue along with the door and make window boxes that span the whole width of the windows those are too small I would keep the landscaping very low so the light is not blocked in the basement and really a new walkway to the door is an absolute nessessity IMO with plantings along it too.

Notice how well these soft blue shutters work with almond windows. The brown roof is limiting, but blue would work well with it.
