@caterry in the old kitchen there was also a plug there, which we did use quite a bit for kitchen appliances or laptop. So it was a natural choice for us to retain it, but with an upgraded one which has 2 USB charging ports as well. Yes, ideally, it would've been nice to have the waterfall 'untouched', but at the price of a much-used convenience.

Nicely done! Re outlet, before our K reno, we had peninsula, sans elegant waterfall countertop, & it had outlet in precisely same place, per code as there are max distances betw. outlets. Only way around it is surface-mounted pop-up outlet, but the under-cabinet cylinder that houses outlet when down creates interferences w/ drwrs, which then have to be modified. I had considered these for island, but our CKD talked me out of it for reasons stated. Glad she did.

@Elizabeth Jennings, we love the GE induction range. It's super quick to boil water (or anything for that matter), and the safety factor is a big plus since it switches off automatically if there's nothing on the stove in contact with it. It's a breeze to clean. Heat is consistent all around whether cooking or baking. Of course you need induction compliant pots and pans for the stove, but we easily got those at Ikea for a reasonable price. I will say I miss the 'analogue' subtleties of being able to adjust/dial in the flame size on a gas range, and whenever I pick up the pan from the stove to toss/shake the contents, there's no flame underneath that continues to heat the pan. All the controls are digital, including the heat increments (they step up/down in half increments from 1 to 10). But overall, it has not made me regret the decision to go induction.
