1976 country-style family room updated. Removal of floral carpeting, all wallpaper, textured ceiling, relocation of fireplace, added window seat and window. Opened load-bearing wall to create better flow to the dining room. New crown molding and baseboards.

I particularly like that you've used the rug to position the furniture in a cosy and inviting way in what looks like quite a long, narrow space. Good job!

Fantastic transformation! Relocation of the fireplace creates a great focal point in the room and the positioning of the furniture is perfect......

Very nicely done! Have you considered moving the sofa to face the fireplace and putting the larger lounge chair to the left of fireplace and the spool back where the leather currently sits? The room will become instantly "larger" and brighter. Holy Moly! What a change.

Do I remember this room from six or eight months ago? This is a great lesson for people to look beyond the surface and see the potential -- nice! Thank you so much for posting.

Yes- we posted this phot when we moved in last May! We had no idea where to start. Great memory Barnhart!

Carole- We do miss the barn beam mantle. I love that piece and we plan to use it somewhere else in the home

Daniel- we did consider placing the sofa in front of the fireplace, but decided on this layout after we were given expert advice! Plus we plan to add to our kitchen by placing an island in the fore ground of this picture...stay tuned kitchen remodel is next!

It looks like the Before was taken when other occupants lived at this home...and the After was when the new people moved into the home.

I am picking myself out from under my desk. Surely the home has new owners. Glad I didn't have to fill all the nail holes in the walls.

are you guys the same owners...it is so beautiful

How do you relocate a fireplace? That is amazing!

Beautiful! What a great idea to move the fireplace and add a window. A total transformation.

Amy- To relocate the fireplace, our contractor removed the bricks, sealed of the old one and dry walled over it. We purchased a ventless gas fireplace with a blower insert to push the warm air out into the room. A mason did all the stone work and our contractor built the mantle. I should mention without our contractor, Ron Vega, none of this would have happened. He was fabulous to work with and made this room a reality by looking at one inspiration photo!

Absolutely beautiful! I didn't even notice the fireplace in the before picture until someone commented on it:)

Is this the house that was overdone in Americana??? Patriotism everywhere? This is an amazing transformation! I hope you love and enjoy it.
