Is there a hack to make Domsjo sinks work with Hammarp countertops?

My husband and I just bought a new house, and we immediately had to redo the kitchen because the old cabinets smelled like cat urine. We're doing an Ikea kitchen, because you can the most bang for your buck and we don't have a lot to spend. This is our second time doing an Ikea kitchen, but this is our first with the new kitchen line. We really love our butcher block counter tops and wanted to do them again. Also, we love the look of the smaller Domsjo apron sink. However, the sink says it needs 1 1/2" counter tops, and the Hammarp counter tops are 1 1/8". Is there any hack to make this work?

We've looked at tons of counter tops and tons of sinks, and we can't find anything else we like as much. My husband's handy, so if anyone has made it work with some adjustments, I'd love to know. Usually there are a million blog posts on any Ikea issues/hacks, but I think because the new line is still relatively new, there isn't much information.

I know this is really old by now, but we just installed the larger Domsjo with Hammarp countertops and the sorting cabinet, no cutting into drawers required. Simply get some 3/8 inch plywood, cut it to the same length as the counters (and 24 1/2" deep) and place it under your Hammarp counters. The edges will be barely visible but you can paint them to match your cabinets, or use a basic cove trim to make them look like part of the countertop.

The installation instructions for the Domsjo actually give directions as to how to modify the cabinet to accommodate a 1 1/8" countertop. These can be downloaded on the IKEA website.

Thanks. I hadn't noticed that the manual explained that, but my concern is that we were planning to do the base cabinet that pulls out for the trash/recycling. I don't see anything in the instructions explaining how this could be done. Does anyone have an experience whether this can work?

You will have to use the cabinet that is made for the sink and put your pullout one somewhere else

The pull out is made for the sink. It's the Base cabinet f/DOMSJÖ sink/sorting (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79041451/#/S59040650), but I'm guessing it won't work with the 1 1/8" counter tops. Our kitchen is really small, so we can't really give up another cabinet to the pull out. Has anyone been able to make this work? Otherwise, it's back to the drawing board. Thanks for your responses!

Mary - you just need to cut 3/8" off the top of the door of your pull-out lower cabinet (per the sink instructions). Then you add new edge banding. You would also need to verify that the height of your trash can fits under the sink.
