Privacy hedges to block noise

Hi! am considering buying a house located on a busy street in Los anglers area. I was interested in planting privacy plants for ambiance and to block traffic noise. It's a large lot. any advice on surrounding a large front yard I terms of low maintenance plants that can block noise and view?

if you value quiet, don't buy on a busy street. after you move in you'll forget you paid less and just hate the noise.

Been there, done that.....................does not block the noise at all. Only a solid wall of concrete block will deflect the noise, but it's likely to come over the top of the wall.

If you plant a solid wall of hedges, it can be an invitation to rob your house since thieves do not like open places.

Even the densest foliage can't block noise...you need solid materials, unfortunately.

I would take that money and add new acoustic drywall and triple glazed windows for the INTERIOR of the house. Acoustic drywall = $3.39/sf. By the time it is finished and painted = $5/sf. The new windows (all of them on that side of the house) = a few thousand + labor.

You would need an 8ft solid structure to get rid some noise. Better to invest in the INSIDE of the house and enjoy a drastic reduction. If you put it outside, you will spend almost the same amount, and have on a fraction of reduction that would occur if you did this on the INSIDE.

Keep in mind the noise that is an issue for you will be a major issue if you ever put the property up for sale. The traffic and noise will likely diminish the value of the home.

After purchasing a home with a traffic noise factor once, I would never put myself in that position again. I could never enjoy sitting on my front porch or having the windows in my home open because of the noise and the engine exhaust from the cars. And having a sideswiped Suburban end up on my lawn and missing the house by a few feet really ended my relationship with that home.

To me, it's just not worth it.
