Trailing herb suggestions?

I have an upper shelf in my sunny windowsill herb garden. I'd like to put a herb on the shelf that will trail or hang down. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There is a prostrate rosemary that trails. Thyme will trail over the edge of a pot also.

Unless you have additional lighting I don't think either Rosemary or Thyme will be happy in a window. And Rosemary, at least, will need quite a large container.

The window is a very sunny south window with lots of reflected light and heat from neighboring houses and a concrete driveway.

For the past few weeks I've had a basil plant, a regar Rosemary and culinary sage that are doing fine. I've had a potted mini rose up there for a month now and its doing very well with lots of new growth and continued blooms.

I want to add chives, cilantro, thyme and maybe mint. But I need something for the upper shelf I'm installing and it would be nice if a few of the plants on the shelf would trail downwards.

Well I'm still going to be a wet blanket. A few weeks is still early days and I really don't think that long term this is going to work. Herbs indoors are seldom really successful. Maybe you could show a picture to convince me?

So today was cloudy and overcast, not the best example of how sunny the window is. But here's a photo anyway, the sun was just peeking out from the clouds

Here's the windows from the outside on a typical sunny day taken a month ago. Lots of light reflected from the neighboring homes and driveway. Windows in question are the two to the right.

The back of my house faces slightly southeast, mostly south though. As the sun moves above and over the house the light is reflected off my neighbor's house right back into my windows.

Same windows from inside (to the left) 4 pm on a fall day. Still very bright with lots of light coming in

I have oregano that trails beautifully. Don't have any seeds but I can send you a cutting for Sase.

Thanks for the pictures reesepbuttercup. Now I have a good idea of the situation. The thing is that the herbs you have there are still very tiny. Your rosemary, for example, naturally wants to be a shrub at least three by four feet. The sage is already showing signs of etiolation. Your herbs would be much happier outside in that lovely sunny space in much larger pots and you could have houseplants in the window, more suited to indoor life. Your mini rose has survived a month in good condition but these are hardy outdoor shrubs which eventually will suffer indoors and need a period of winter of dormancy. I'm not trying to be negative, just practical, based on many years gardening. I don't want you to be disappointed a few months down the line. Growing herbs successfully indoors is really not easy.

Try some of the plants suggested and see how they do. The plants will tell you whether they are happy. That said, herbs are much happier outdoors.

Sulani62: a trailing oregano sounds wonderful. I'd be happy to send you a SASE. Is there a PM feature on the houzz forum? Otherwise I'm not sure how to get your address. I can post my email here for you if that works. Thanks!
