i grew up on a vegetable farm. i'm finished with that nonsense...i'd rather clean the house.

I didn't grow up on a vegetable farm but I had to pull my share of weeds and I mowed a lot of lawns. I'm done with that and would rather clean house.

oh, and i hate being hot.

Work in the garden!!

As long as it's not too hot out, I love weeding, pruning, etc. I'd much rather weed than vacuum!

I've never had a yard to work in, ever. Not even as a child. My husband and I just purchased our first home and the yard was well maintained with hearty perennials and ground cover. I have a chronic illness, so there's time when I don't leave the house for days. But now I have my own yard, and there's something about finally being able to work my own soil, even on my bad days

my garden is in the house. lots of plants. planning on adding minature lemon, pomengranite and avacado trees which will spend the summer on the porch.

I actually enjoy doing both, I just don't have enough energy to do both on the same day.

I totally understand that! I only have enough energy to do projects a little at a time during a day.

I grew up in the country. So I rather the garden any day.

Thanks, Bev, I am way older than you...been there, done that. We are relaxing....maybe not...I have my design business and HE is still running, reffing high school basketball and playing a 4.0 tennis game.

House is clean; yard looks great. Love the guys and lovely girl who help us keep it perfect.

Judy--I'm sure you are not that much older than me! I turned 60 last year.

heck, i am not even 60, but if i could be what i was in 2011, i would do both and not even complain! though a beautiful day in the garden is always a winner.

I'd rather do gardening with a clean house! When I get gardening the hours fly by quickly. When I'm done I have stiff limbs & a sore body after spending 3-4 hours in the garden. It's become important to have a garden with nonstop flowering perennials requiring less maintenance. I love making our deck a garden of flowers with interesting foliage plants in nice containers. We love being in our beautiful oasis & starting our day with coffee outside. Living in Massachusetts we have a relatively short season where we can enjoy lush greenery & flowers. I have the need to take advantage of the warm weather & be surrounded by living color.

I'm that way when I'm sewing or quilting! The hours fly by since it's one of my favorite things to do!

Gardening feels like recreation, while housecleaning, however much of a relief, always feels like work. Plus, sometimes my garden gives me tomatoes! :)

I like pruning. By pruning often, I don't need to use chemical sprays.

I have done both and in scorching hot weather, cleaning house in morning and afternoons doing gardens. these days cleaning house seems to be dominating everything but have indoors plants too-outdoors I check every so often as someone else has care of it now. Having that feeling where I want to change some things indoors and out and once I start, there no stopping me lol

you're right, Bev, it is definitely difficult for anyone with physical limitations or problems. also, more emphasis is placed on ergonomics of appliances and catering for all levels of ability regarding indoor work than outdoor

I know there are more of you on Houzz that have not chosen which you like better.

Hi you spring chickens! I will be 66 this year. We just eliminated our grass and laid weed screen, put together 4
Above ground vegetable beds. Wheel barreled over 2 yards
Planting soil. Moved fountain and planted 14 plants. If we did this every week, there would be no need for the gym! I loved it
And am so grateful we can do it.......oh we put my food cart out there for a kitchen! Also moved our bar.

Cleaning the house is such a thankless job. Everyone loves a sparkling clean house, but it lasts for a day at most. Cook the evening meal after a day of cleaning and there are splatters on the stove, perhaps (if you're me) you've dripped or dribbled on the floor or down a cabinet and the once polished sink and faucets are no longer polished as they were earlier in the day. Of course, one cleans up the splatters and dribbles, but some are always missed. A day in the garden is always a a day spent for the greater good. Whether tilling, weeding, planting or pinching, the end result always leads to greater satisfaction and the promised rewards of your labor.

I agree with you judithahall about housework being a thankless job but I get such a good feeling when everything is clean!
