Nice redo....hard to believe that I redid my kitchen 9 yrs. ago and put in the Oak cabinets like this kitchen had before.....does that mean I'm up for a renovation already???

@Swgarrett, I don't think so as long as you still love your kitchen... Kitchens like this are in the 85k range (depends on appliance budget and cabinet numbers)..so unless you have that kind of cash burning in your pocket, wait until about year 15. :)

Looks great but I would have stained the wood around the window the same as the cabinets. It kind makes the window out of place.

What is the counter top? I'm by myself and wondering if I should do laminate or quartz?

Although this looks very nice, very appealing, the truth in today's real estate market is that your return on investment is not 100% at all. If you spend $50K to remodel your kitchen, you will only see a return of $32K. If you are selling your home, that is the money you will be taking out of your equity. This is a throw away, change it all the time society that wants the newest, biggest, best of everything out there at a moment's notice. Only the upper middle class can afford this type of refurbish.

Gorgeous...but, the height of the window bothers me more than the stained trim. How about a subtle...perhaps ribbon trimmed linen...roman shade valance mounted all the way at the ceiling to visually raise the window to the height of the cabinets?

I like the window trim contrast. I hate when all the wood matches. This room looks like it was done by a designer! Designers make sure pieces and room elements compliment, but they don't match.

Beautiful! I love seeing cabinets repainted when they are oak finish. I can't say I even liked them when everyone started putting them in their kitchens back in the '80s. You've got a lovely place now for your family to gather.

Zsazsajanny, I'm with you. I never liked oak, unless it's quarter-sawn. The only oak we have is our guest bedroom set. If I had the energy, I would paint it white. We have teak, Hawaiian mango, cherry, and a couple pieces from Asia, that I'm not really sure what the wood is, but I love how they look. Most of my wood furniture are antiques, except for my counter stools, entertainment center and my rocking chair.

Teresa, Are you changing your countertops to sell the house or for yourself? If you are changing countertops for yourself, go with quartz. Quartz is heat resistant, and extremely durable. It's a great product for anyone that likes to cook, and it is beautiful! If you want to change something to sell, I don't know if I would bother. After seeing two homes a couple years after, that I put a lot of work into them to sell, I saw that my weeks of aches, pains, and sweat equity were for nothing. If someone told me to paint or change something to sell at this point, I would tell them to jump in a lake. Most likely, the new buyers will change out laminate countertops, if you put them in.

Opening it up was a great idea. Everything ties in so nicely.

I am bookmarking this picture as I get ready to totally remodel mine... I love the detail in the floor under the island! Also the 2 colors of cabinets and how they're placed. Did you order the grey color or paint them after install? I like the window frame the color it is.
